Case study

Hadley

A powerful but dead-simple app that makes college savings social.

Making education savings social

Saving for private K–12, college, vocational school, or graduate school can be daunting. Even after opening a 529 education savings plan, having others contribute to it is nearly impossible. Hadley makes college savings social.

Research and prototyping were the key

Tanooki’s development and design teams collaborated with Yosh from the beginning, starting with an ideation prototype. The goal was to make a 529 contribution as simple as sending a Venmo payment. Financial-industry regulations and back-end system incompatibility made that challenging, so the team researched ways to streamline the process and ensure the systems communicated with one another.

A new payment flow for 529 accounts

Working with the Hadley team and solutions including Plaid, Stripe, and Skyflow, Tanooki created a complex back-end flow with an intuitive user experience. The resulting technology connects bank accounts to 529 accounts through a payment flow designed to be seamless, safe, secure, and regulatory compliant.
